This project was handed to us with an open mind. The client wanted something special for their Xbox One and the control pad, so the team helped by transforming them with holographic paint.
Tools Used
- Sanding Paper
- Degreaser
- High Build Primer
- Silver Base Coat
- Hologram Effect Lacquer
- 2K Gloss Lacquer
Prep & Prime
The first step was to sand down the existing surface and plastics, as well as degrease the surface in preparation for the ground coat (primer coat). Apply the ground coat, and if applying light coats, then it is recommended to leave for a minimum of 30 minutes, but preferably closer to an hour if thicker.
Base Coat
Once the primer coat has cured, we applied our Silver 1K Base Coat (the base coat is the colour coat). After application, this was then left to cure for 30 minutes to an hour for every coat. Two coats were applied to the Xbox and left to cure. The final results were absolutely fantastic and really effective. We then applied the holographic effects lacquers, and again, we applied two coats and left them to cure.
Top Coat
The final coat of lacquer is where things get interesting. The lacquer will seal the base coat to protect the finish. We added 3 coats of 2K High Gloss Lacquer and then left them to cure overnight and harden.
The outcome we were looking to achieve was amazing, and the pictures do not do it justice. As the silver normally reflects light, with the hologram paint, the colour changes as you move around the project. We were really happy with the final result, and again it just goes to show what a little bit of time, creative thinking and inspiration can do.
